1. A device for determining accident severity, the device positioned in a vehicle operated by a user and communicatively connected to a mobile device, the device comprising:
a housing having at least a portion of the housing secured within a cigarette lighter socket of the vehicle;
a set of sensors disposed in the housing and configured to generate a set of data associated with the vehicle, the set of sensors including a vehicle motion sensor; and
one or more controllers disposed within the housing configured to:
(i) determine whether an accident involving the vehicle has occurred based at least in part on the set of data;
(ii) responsive to the determination that an accident involving the vehicle has occurred, determine an accident-severity score associated with the vehicle involved in the accident, the accident-severity score being based on a set of accident-severity scoring rules and at least a portion of the set of data, the accident-severity scoring rules based at least on actual speed of the vehicle, posted speed limit where the vehicle is traveling, data based off gross weight of the vehicle, and data based off of type of vehicle;
(iii) determine a geo-location of the vehicle and whether the vehicle is less than a distance threshold from a hospital;
(iv) modify the determined accident-severity score based on determining that the vehicle is greater than the distance threshold; and
(v) transmit an output signal representative of the determined accident-severity score to a computing device separate and distinct from the mobile device.
