1. A computer-implemented method performed by at least one processor, comprising:
retrieving, by the at least one processor and from a hardware storage device, telematics data produced by one or more accelerometers that are not electrically connected to a vehicle;
processing, by the at least one processor, the telematics data with at least one machine learning model to detect one or more vibrational patterns at the vehicle that are indicative of a fueling event;
transmitting a notification to a mobile device of a user of the vehicle, the notification configured to cause the mobile device to render a user interface with a prompt to the user to confirm the fueling event;
receiving, from the mobile device, user input data confirming the fueling event;
determining, by the at least one processor, an amount of fuel added to the vehicle for the fueling event; and
determining, by the at least one processor based at least partly on the amount of fuel added to the vehicle for the fueling event and the telematics data, a fuel economy of the vehicle.
