1. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program code that is executable by a processor for causing the processor to perform operations including:
extracting a list of application programming interface (API) object classes from a definition file, wherein the definition file includes the list of API object classes, and wherein the definition file also includes characteristics for a target API object, the definition file being usable to deploy the target API object with the characteristics; and
based on extracting the list, updating an attribute field of the target API object to specify the API object classes,
wherein operator software in a distributed computing environment is configured to:
obtain the list of API object classes from the attribute field of the deployed target API object;
based on obtaining the list of API object classes from the attribute field of the deployed target API object, monitor the object classes specified in the list for events; and
execute computing logic in response to detecting the events related to the object classes.
