1. A head mounted night vision system comprising:
a semiconductor chip configured to receive first light of an underlying image, the underlying image being an image from a night vision device, and superimpose second light of a display image over the underlying image, the semiconductor chip comprising
light emitters formed on the semiconductor chip to emit the second light, the light emitters representing respective pixels of the display image, the light emitters being configured to emit the second light with an intensity emitted based on respective pixel values of the display image, and transparent regions being arranged between the light emitters;
a frame buffer configured to store pixel values in a computer readable memory, and configured to communicate, at a first frame rate, the pixel values to the light emitters; and
a processor configured to update, at a second frame rate, slower than the first frame rate, pixel values stored in the frame buffer.
