1. A sensor assembly, comprising:
a first substrate comprising a first base layer and a plurality of first electrical contacts, the first base layer having a first surface and a second surface, a plurality of first sensor portions constructed of a first electrically conductive material on the first surface and with each of the first sensor portions connected to a respective one of the plurality of first electrical contacts, the first sensor portions spaced apart and electrically isolated; and
a second substrate comprising a second base layer, a plurality of second sensor portions constructed of a second electrically conductive material, and a plurality of second electrical contacts, the second base layer having a first surface and a second surface with the plurality of second sensor portions on the first surface of the second base layer, the second sensor portions spaced apart and electrically isolated;
wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are arranged in a layered structure in which the first surface of the first base layer and the first surface of the second base layer border a fluid flow path intersecting the first sensor portions and the second sensor portions, wherein a first one of the first sensor portions is aligned with a first one of the second sensor portions across the fluid flow path to form a first single integrated electrochemical type of sensor where the sensing by the first single integrated electrochemical type of sensor is performed by the first one of the first sensor portions and the first one of the second sensor portions working together to identify a first analyte, and a second one of the first sensor portions is aligned with a second one of the second sensor portions across the fluid flow path to form a second integrated electrochemical type of sensor where the sensing by the second single integrated electrochemical type of sensor is performed by the second one of the first sensor portions and the second one of the second sensor portions working together to identify a second analyte of interest;
wherein at least one of the second sensor portions includes a first electrode and a second electrode with the first electrode electrically isolated from the second electrode; and
wherein the first surface of the first base layer and the first surface of the second base layer border the fluid flow path between the first and second electrochemical type of sensors.
