1. A hybrid bucket assembly for supporting a consumable bucket shell for a work vehicle, comprising:
a structural skeletal framework comprising a frame, a network of shell-conforming struts and one or more coupling brackets; and
a selectably replaceable bucket shell comprising a body and a periphery surrounding an open end of the body, wherein the frame provides for external support around the periphery of the replaceable bucket shell, and wherein the shell-conforming struts provide external support around the body of the replaceable bucket shell;
wherein all of the shell-conforming struts are fastened to the frame and at least one of the one or more coupling brackets.
