1. An intervertebral implant for implantation in an intervertebral space between adjacent vertebrae, the implant comprising:
a spacer having a superior surface, an inferior surface, a proximal end, and a distal end, wherein the superior surface and the inferior surface each have a contact area configured to engage adjacent vertebrae, the spacer defining an opening extending from the superior surface to the inferior surface of the spacer, and the spacer defining a plurality of cutouts; and
a plurality of inserts, each insert at least partially defining a fastener aperture sized and dimensioned for receiving a fastener, wherein each insert is coupled to the spacer such that at least a portion of each insert is received in one of the plurality of cutouts in the spacer,
wherein the superior surface and the inferior surface are configured with a roughened or porous surface,
wherein the proximal end includes at least one locking mechanism to prevent backout of each of the fastener.
