1. A method for forming fibers of quad-polymers comprising (a) a first monomer that is acrylonitrile, (b) a second monomer that is selected from a group consisting of 1-vinylimidazole, 4-vinylimidazole, 2-vinylimidazole, and 1-methyl-2-vinylimidazole, (c) a third monomer that is selected from a group consisting of methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, and tert-butyl acrylate, and (d) a fourth monomer that is an acid and is selected from a group consisting of acrylic acid, itaconic acid, and methacrylic acid, wherein the method includes the steps of:
(i) combining the first monomer, the second monomer, the third monomer, and the fourth monomer to form the quad-polymer composition; and
(ii) melt-spinning the quad-polymer composition to form fibers of the quad-polymer composition.
