1. A process of producing porous polymeric beads, comprising:
copolymerizing (1) a styrene monomer, (2) an acetoxymethyl styrene or an acetoxystyrene monomer, and (3) one or more crosslinker monomers of Formula (VI), (VII) or (VIII) or a combination thereof, to provide a crosslinked copolymer; and
hydrolyzing the crosslinked copolymer to convert the acetoxymethyl or acetoxy group to hydroxymethyl or hydroxy group in the crosslinked copolymer;

each Rc is independently H or C1-C6 alkyl;
each R3 is independently C6-C10 arylene, C3-C10 membered cycloalkylene, five to ten membered heteroarylene, three to ten membered heterocyclylene, C1-C10 alkylene, 2 to 1500 membered heteroalkylene, or C1-C10 alkylene or 2 to 1500 membered heteroalkylene each independently interrupted by a ring or ring system selected from the group consisting of C6-C10 arylene, C3-C10 membered cycloalkylene, five to ten membered heteroarylene, and three to ten membered heterocyclylene;
R5 is C6-C10 arylene, C3-C10 membered cycloalkylene, five to ten membered heteroarylene, three to ten membered heterocyclylene, —CH2OCH2—, —CH2O(CH2)1-6OCH2—, or C2-C10 heteroalkylene comprising one or more oxo (═O) atoms;
each of m, n, p and q is independently 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6;
wherein each phenyl moiety in Formula (VI), (VII) or (VIII) is optionally substituted with one or more R6; and
each R6 is independently selected from the group consisting of halo, cyano, hydroxy, amino, C1-C6 alkyl, C1-C6 haloalkyl, C1-C6 alkoxy, C1-C6 haloalkoxy, (C1-C6 alkyl)amino, (C1-C6 alkyl)hydroxy, (C1-C6 alkoxy)C1-C6 alkyl, and —O—(C1-C6 alkoxy)C1-C6 alkyl.
