1. A method, comprising, by a service provider system:
detecting that a vehicle has communicatively connected to an access portal of the system,
receiving, from an electronic device of the vehicle, an identification code, wherein receiving the identification code comprises, upon receipt of a certificate signing request (CSR) from an electronic device of the vehicle that has connected to the access portal of the system, examining the CSR and retrieving the identification code from the CSR;
using the identification code to determine if an address is assigned to the electronic device of the vehicle;
if an address is assigned to the electronic device of the vehicle and the assigned address is not shared with other devices, embedding the assigned address in a certificate, otherwise generating a unique address for the electronic device of the vehicle and embedding the unique address in the certificate;
transferring the certificate to the electronic device of the vehicle via the access portal for use in an initialization process; and
after the electronic device of the vehicle has used the certificate to complete the initialization process, maintaining a communicative connection with the electronic device of the vehicle via the access portal and exchanging data with the electronic device of the vehicle via the communicative connection.
