1. A system comprising:
a memory component; and
a memory sub-system controller, operatively coupled with the memory component, to perform operations comprising:
receiving a key delegation request comprising a new public key;
based on receiving the key delegation request, generating a challenge comprising a combination of a nonce, the new public key, and a root public key;
validating, using the new public key, a first digital signature generated by cryptographically signing the challenge with a new private key corresponding to the new public key;
validating, using the root public key, a second digital signature generated by cryptographically signing the challenge with a root private key corresponding to the root public key; and
copying the new public key to the memory component based on validating the first digital signature and the second digital signature.
