1. A wireless power transmitting device configured to provide wireless power to a wireless power receiving device, comprising:
wireless power transmitting circuitry having a wireless power transmitting coil configured to transmit wireless power signals; and
control circuitry configured to:
estimate a foreign object power loss value based at least partly on a scaling factor exchanged between wireless power receiving device and wireless power transmitting device, wherein the scaling factor is determined using characterizing information from measurements made with at least one of a reference transmitter or a reference receiver;
wherein the wireless power receiving device comprises a wireless power receiving device of a given receiver model and wherein the scaling factor is a ratio of: 1) a transmitter coil loss coefficient determined by pairing a receiver of the given receiver model to a reference transmitter to 2) a transmitter coil loss coefficient determined by pairing a reference receiver to a reference transmitter.
