1. A wireless headphone device comprising:
a wireless communications interface including a wireless antenna;
an infrared proximity sensor that is configured to detect physical movement;
at least one processor; and
at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the wireless headphone device is configured to:
operate in a first power state;
detect that an object is in proximity to the infrared proximity sensor; and
after detection of the object, adjust operation of the wireless headphone device from the first power state to a second power state.
