19 Claims

1. A functionalized carbon black obtained by treating an oxidized carbon black with a sulfur-containing primary or secondary amine or a salt thereof,

wherein the sulfur-containing primary or secondary amine comprises a compound of the formula R¹—S_x—Z—NR²R³or S_x(—Z—NR²R³)₂, wherein

Z is a divalent C₁-C₈alkylene group,

x is an integer of at least 1, and

R¹, R²and R³are each individually selected from hydrogen and a monovalent organic group comprising 1-20 carbon atoms.
