1. A composition, comprising a bulking agent and one or more

or a salt or solvate thereof; wherein
R2, R3, and R4 are independently hydrogen, tetrahydrofuranyl, substituted tetrahydrofuranyl, tetrahydropyranyl, or substituted tetrahydropyranyl; and
R5 is hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkoxy, or substituted alkoxy; and
with the following provisos:
(a) when R2, R3, and R5 are hydrogen; then R4 is not a moiety of 2-methyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-3,4,5-triol; and
(b) at least one of R2, R3, R4 and R5 is not hydrogen:
