1. A system, comprising:
a processor; and
a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
receiving a service request for provision of a data communication service to a communication device via a radio access network node of a communication network, the data communication service corresponding to one of a live video streaming application or a transmission of medical device control packets;
in response to receiving the service request, determining a reliability criterion associated with the data communication service; and
controlling an activation or a deactivation of a hybrid automatic repeat request function of the radio access network node based on the reliability criterion, wherein when the data communication service corresponds to the live video streaming application the controlling includes the deactivation of the hybrid automatic repeat request function, and wherein when the data communication service corresponds to the transmission of medical device control packets the controlling includes the activation of the hybrid automatic repeat request function.
