1. An object retention wand system comprising:
a wand body having a handle for holding the wand;
a sensor located on or in the wand body for use in determining when the wand is capable of properly scanning a target area;
a feedback device that provides a first type of indication when it is determined that the wand is capable of properly scanning the target area, and a second type of indication different from the first type of indication when it is determined that the wand is not capable of properly scanning the target area;
wherein the feedback device includes a haptic feedback device.
