1. A method of communicating a media asset comprising:
receiving a request for a media asset from a viewer via a 3rd party application software associated with a streaming content provider;
intercepting the request by an internet RF proxy operating within an internet communication layer;
determining, by the internet RF proxy, if the requested media asset is available in a memory of user device associated with the viewer or if the requested media asset is currently being broadcast over the air (OTA) to the user device in an advanced television system committee (ATSC) 3.0 environment;
if the requested media asset is available in the memory of the user device or if the requested media asset is being broadcast OTA to the user device,
retrieving, by the internet RF proxy, the requested media asset from the memory or from the OTA broadcast;
else,
retrieving, by the internet RF proxy, the requested media asset from a network location; and
communicating an identity of the requested media asset to a central content controller (CCC), wherein the 3rd party application is unaltered during each of the determining, retrieving and communicating with the CCC steps wherein functionality associated with the internet RF proxy is located within the user device.
