1. An electrolyte for a lithium battery, comprising:
a lithium salt;
an organic solvent comprising fluoroethylene carbonate at a concentration greater than 10% by weight of the electrolyte; and
an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent that is different from the organic solvent, wherein the aromatic hydrocarbon solvent has a formula (I):

OG Complex Work Unit Chemistry
wherein, R1 and R2 can be the same or different and each is independently selected from hydrogen; halogen; unsubstituted, branched or unbranched aliphatic; substituted or unsubstituted, branched or unbranched haloaliphatic; substituted or unsubstituted, branched or unbranched haloheteroaliphatic; substituted or unsubstituted aryl; substituted or unsubstituted haloaryl; substituted or unsubstituted haloheteroaryl; wherein R1 and/or R2 can be substituted, branched or unbranched aliphatic when R1 and R2 are different and are not hydrogen or a nitro group;
wherein n and m are integers from 0 to 6, with n+m≤6;
wherein the aromatic hydrocarbon solvent is present at an amount that deviates no more than 20 wt % with respect to a critical amount of aromatic hydrocarbon solvent in the electrolyte;
wherein the critical amount of aromatic hydrocarbon solvent in the electrolyte is an amount at which the electrolyte phase separates from a single liquid phase into at least two liquid phases.
