1. A method of filtering a trigger signal from an encoder for triggering an image capturing device, comprising:
receiving an input trigger signal from an encoder, the input trigger signal including a sequence of pulses for triggering the image capturing device;
determining an average pulse frequency of the input trigger signal over a period of time based on detecting a number of pulses in the input signal over the period of time;
applying restrictions to the average pulse frequency to generate a trigger output frequency;
determining an output frequency based on the trigger output frequency; and
outputting a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal for triggering the image capturing device, the PWM signal having a frequency based on the output frequency.
