1. A conditioning system for a conditioned interior space, the conditioning system comprising:
a vapor compression system including:
a refrigerant loop for circulating a refrigerant active fluid;
an evaporator positioned on the refrigerant loop in a first airflow directed toward the conditioned interior space; and
a condenser positioned on the refrigerant loop in a second airflow directed toward an exterior space; and
a heat and mass exchange device positioned in the first airflow, wherein the heat and mass exchange device is connected to a source of water and comprises an open fluid path for flow of a non-refrigerant active fluid including water, the open fluid path comprises a plurality of cavities and each cavity defines an open portion exposed to the first airflow and covered by a vapor-permeable membrane, and the vapor-permeable membrane permits water vapor evaporated from the non-refrigerant active fluid to pass out of the open portion and into the first airflow.
