1. A method of detecting a vibration of a drill string in a borehole, the method comprising:
conveying the drill string into the borehole, the drill string including an electrical machine, the electrical machine including a stator and a movable element, the movable element movable relative to the stator;
rotating the drill string in the borehole;
determining, via a control circuit, a first amplitude of the vibration of the drill string by measuring a signal indicative of a movement of the movable element in the electrical machine due to rotation of the drill string; and
controlling, via the control circuit, a downhole operation of the drill string based on the detected first amplitude of the vibration of the drill string.
