1. A perceptual-driven continuously foveated display with specified resolution across the display, the display having a display plane with a plurality of pixels, where the location of the pixels on the perceptual-driven continuously foveated display is distributed according to the angular pixel density function given by the equation
![]() where θ is the field angle of a pixel position P on the display plane along a given direction r and θ is defined as the angular deviation of the pixel position from a Z-axis perpendicular to the display plane of the OXYZ reference system in the unit of degrees; θx and θy correspond to an X-component and a Y-component of the field angle θ in the horizontal (X) and vertical (Y) directions, respectively; N is the number of critical balance points (N≥1); θC1(r), θC2(r) . . . , and θCN(r) are the balance points arranged along the given radial direction r in the order from the smallest to the largest angular distance from the center I; and, f1, f2, . . . fN+1 are N+1 segmented functions that characterize the relative resolution distribution within each corresponding region, and
f1(θ)=f2(θ) when θ=θC1,
whereby transition artifacts located at transitions between adjacent segmented functions is minimized.
