1. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program code that is executable by a processing device for causing the processing device to:
receive computing metrics, from computing nodes within a mesh network, indicating resource usage on the computing nodes;
determine message sizes for the computing nodes based on the computing metrics;
compare the message sizes to one another to determine a smallest message size among the message sizes;
select the smallest message size for use as a maximum message size within the mesh network; and
transmit the maximum message size to the computing nodes, the computing nodes being configured to receive the maximum message size and responsively configure themselves to comply with the maximum message size.
