1. A document lockbox system for use in an autonomous vehicle, the document lockbox system comprising:
a receptacle positioned within an exterior body panel of the autonomous vehicle, wherein the receptacle comprises a compartment sized to hold a document containing information used to satisfy statutory or regulatory requirements;
at least one document retention device configured to secure the document within the compartment of the receptacle, wherein the at least one document retention device retains the document in the receptacle and permits the document to be retrieved by a verified authority from the receptacle and returned to the receptacle;
a door that provides access into the receptacle from an exterior of the autonomous vehicle;
at least one lock configured to lock the door and to unlock the door;
a lock interface configured to allow a user to actuate the at least one lock; and
at least one processor and a memory operably coupled with the at least one processor, wherein the memory stores instructions that, in response to execution of the instructions by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations including:
actuating the at least one lock to one of lock and unlock the at least one lock.
