1. A method comprising:
communicating, by a base station, with a user equipment (UE) using a first frequency in a time division duplexing (TDD) mode;
determining, by the base station, that the UE requires an expanded cell range if a distance to the UE is within a threshold distance from a normal cell range of the base station, wherein the distance is determined using a timing advance command; and
adjusting, by the base station, a configuration of a special slot of a radio frame for the UE in response to determining that the UE requires the expanded cell range, the special slot comprising uplink and downlink symbols, the configuration de-prioritizing a final downlink symbol in the special slot.
