1. A method implemented by an ear-worn electronic device configured to be worn in, on or about an ear of a user, the method comprising:
receiving an adaptation request in response to a user action;
capturing a sample of ambient sound in response to the adaptation request;
receiving a listening intent preference of the user;
determining a set of audio processing parameters based on the ambient sound and the listening intent preference; and
applying the set of audio processing parameters to a captured audio stream to deliver processed sound through the device, the processed sound being consistent with the listening intent preference of the user.
