1. A recessed light fixture for illuminating a room through an opening in a ceiling, the light fixture comprising:
a housing having a bottom;
an aperture in the bottom of the housing;
a heat sink disposed within the housing, and the heat sink having a thermal interface, and the heat sink being non-removable through the aperture;
a LED module being insertable into and removable from the housing through the aperture, along an insertion axis;
the LED module having a base with a first end and an LED mounted to the first end of the base, and the base having a second end with a thermal interface adapted for thermal coupling to the thermal interface of the heat sink;
the base comprising material having high thermal conductivity, and the base being operable for effective conduction of heat from the first end of the base to the second end thereof, to effectively conduct heat from the LED to the heat sink;
the LED module being operable to removably mount to the heat sink;
in a connected state, the LED module being mounted to the heat sink, and the thermal interface of the base being thermally coupled with the thermal interface of the heat sink, wherein the thermal interfaces of the base and heat sink are pressed together;
in a disconnected state, the LED module being dismounted from the heat sink, and the thermal interface of the base being thermally de-coupled from the thermal interface of the heat sink; and
the LED module being insertable and removable through the aperture aligned with the opening in the ceiling and operable to be selectively urged into the connected and disconnected states from within the room;
whereby the LED module can be replaced or serviced from within the room without disturbing the ceiling.
