1. A diphenol compound of formula:

wherein:
y1 and y2 are each independently 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4;
m and n are each independently an integer in the range of 1 to 12;
X1 and X2, at each occurrence, are each independently bromine (Br) or iodine (I);
L1 is selected from the group consisting of a bond, oxygen (—O—); and
L4 is selected from the group consisting of a bond, oxygen (—O—), and optionally substituted phenoxy of formula —C6H4—O—;
wherein n is not 2; and
wherein when both L1 and L4=bond, then at least one of y1 or y2 is non-zero.
