1. A method comprising:
administering to a subject a virus-like particle (VLP) comprising viral capsid proteins and about 50 to about 1000 photosensitizer molecules, wherein the subject has cancerous cells; and
applying to the cancerous cells an infrared, near-infrared, or ultraviolet light that activates cytotoxicity of the photosensitizer molecules.
