1. A microbial fuel cell comprising
a cathode, an anode, and a current collector for the cathode, wherein
the cathode comprises a discrete waterproof, nonporous gas diffusion layer and a catalyst layer, and the catalyst layer comprises a cathode current collector, wherein the cathode current collector is a porous matrix,
the waterproof gas diffusion layer comprises a siloxane and a surface that contacts air, wherein the surface that contacts air is opposite the catalyst layer,
the catalyst layer comprises a binder, and
the anode comprises electrogenic bacteria.
