1. A recording system for a vehicle, comprising:
a plurality of proximity sensors configured to obtain data indicative of a distance between a vehicle and external objects;
at least one vehicle operation sensor configured to obtain data indicative of how a driver is operating the vehicle; and
a controller configured to:
obtain input data from random access memory (RAM) for a current monitoring period that includes data from the plurality of proximity sensors and the at least one vehicle operation sensor;
utilize a predictive engine to determine whether the input data fulfills any of a plurality of a criteria sets, each corresponding to a respective potential impending vehicle incident;
based on the predictive engine indicating that the input data fulfills one of the criteria sets, commence saving of the input data from the current monitoring period and subsequent monitoring periods in a data set in in non-RAM memory; and
based on the input data not fulfilling any of the criteria sets, deleting the input data for the current monitoring period from the RAM memory;
complete and cease saving input data to the data set in the non-RAM memory based on occurrence of an exit event corresponding to said one of the criteria sets;
wherein:
one of the respective potential impending vehicle incidents is an impending vehicle rollover, and the criteria set for the impending vehicle rollover includes a gyroscope vehicle operation sensor indicating a vehicle tilt angle above a predefined threshold; or
one of the respective potential impending vehicles incidents is an impending vehicle collision with a particular one of the external objects, and the exit event for the impending vehicle collision includes at least one of a distance between the vehicle and the particular one of the external objects exceeding a predefined distance threshold, the vehicle turning away from the particular one of the external objects, and the vehicle taking an exit ramp.
