1. A method of operating a radiation treatment system, comprising:
modulating, by a processing device, a sub-beam intensity of a radiation beam generated by a radiation source across a plurality of sub-beams that subdivide a fluence field into a two dimensional (2D) grid, wherein modulating the sub-beam intensity is based on an open-time profile determined for each sub-beam of the plurality of sub-beams of the 2D grid positioned across an entire direction of travel for each of a plurality of leaf pairs; and
delivering a plurality of independently generated two-dimensional (2D) sub-beam intensity patterns from a plurality of angles while the radiation source is moved continuously based on the open-time profile, wherein a leaf motion profile associated with the open-time profile provides the sub-beam intensity pattern for each of the 2D sub-beam intensity patterns within a single discrete positional section associated with an angle of the plurality of angles for providing the corresponding 2D sub-beam intensity pattern, and wherein the open-time for each sub-beam of each 2D sub-beam intensity pattern is adjusted to provide a total leaf open-time for each of the plurality of leaf pairs that is less than a discrete time interval corresponding to a time for the radiation source to traverse the single discrete positional section associated with the angle of the plurality of angles.
