1. An orthopedic implant comprising:
a first endplate configured to engage an upper vertebra, wherein the first endplate comprises a first socket;
a second endplate configured to engage a lower vertebra, wherein the second endplate comprises a second socket; and
a translatable carriage positioned between the first endplate and the second endplate, wherein translation of the carriage causes a distance of separation to change between the first endplate and the second endplate,
wherein the first socket includes an upper portion and a lower portion, wherein the upper portion and the lower portion of the first socket are separated when the first endplate and the second endplate are separated.
