9. A method for detecting a current location of a distal tip of a medical device within a patient vasculature, the method comprising:
obtaining first data being fiber optic data indicative of a first location within the patient vasculature, wherein the fiber optic data is obtained from the medical device operating in a first modality;
obtaining second data being impedance fluctuation data through a second modality different than the first modality, and wherein the second data is indicative of a second location within the patient vasculature,
performing a confirmation process that includes (i) retrieving stored impedance fluctuation data corresponding to the first location, wherein the stored impedance fluctuation data was previously obtained via the second modality, and (ii) comparing the stored impedance fluctuation data with the second data resulting in a determination as to whether the second location corresponds to the first location within a predetermined threshold, and
when the second location is determined to correspond to the first location within the predetermined threshold, determining that the first location accurately indicates the current location of the distal tip of the medical device.
