1. An optical data transmission system comprising an optical block, wherein the optical block is configured to be included in an optical engine of a transceiver that includes at least one transmit channel and at least one receive channel, the optical block including a reflective surface that is configured to reflect light between an electro-optic element and an optical fiber and that includes deliberately formed defects that degrade an optical quality of the reflective surface so that some incident light on the reflective surface is scattered or absorbed to attenuate an amount of optical power coupled into the optical fiber, wherein the deliberately formed defects are only on transmit channels.
