1. A portable device comprising:
a display;
a sensor; and
a controller configured to:
control the display to display an image with a first brightness on the display without displaying a User Interaction (UI) element for controlling a brightness of the image,
based on a surrounding brightness sensed through the sensor being higher than a first threshold brightness during the UI element for controlling the brightness of the image being not displayed on the display, control the display to display, on a partial region of the display, the UI element for controlling the brightness of the image and control the display to display the image with a second brightness greater than the first brightness, wherein the brightness of the image is changed to the second brightness based on a user input on the UI element displayed on the partial region of the display, and
based on the surrounding brightness sensed through the sensor being lower than a second threshold brightness which is lower than the first threshold brightness, control the display to display the image with a third brightness lower than the first brightness.
