1. An apparatus to detect atrial fibrillation in a window of temporally adjacent ventricular heart beats, the apparatus comprising:
a processor circuit, comprising:
an input configured to receive indications of pairs of first and second ventricular rate changes of three temporally adjacent ventricular heart beats of a window of temporally adjacent ventricular heart beats;
a first counter circuit configured to determine a first count of instances of the pairs in which a combined rate change magnitude characteristic in units of beats per minute (bpm) is less than at least one first criterion having a unit of bpm; and
a second counter circuit configured to determine a second count of instances of the pairs in which both of the first and second ventricular rate changes are negative;
wherein the processor circuit is configured to determine first and second indications of atrial fibrillation for the window of temporally adjacent ventricular heart beats, wherein the first indication comprises the first count relative to (1) a total number of instances of pairs in the window over which the first and second counts are determined less (2) the first count, and the second indication comprises the second count relative to the total number of instances of pairs in the window over which the first and second counts are determined, the processor circuit further comprising:
an output to provide the determined first and second indications of atrial fibrillation for the window of temporally adjacent ventricular heart beats.
