1. A display device comprising:
a receiver configured to receive an infrared (IR) signal and to operate in a low power mode or an active power mode, the low power mode being a mode in which an active mode in which the IR signal is capable of being received and a standby mode in which the IR signal is not capable of being received are periodically repeated, and the active power mode being a mode in which the active mode is maintained; and
a controller configured to determine whether a wakeup signal is detected from the IR signal while the receiver operates in the low power mode and to switch a power mode of the receiver from the low power mode to the active power mode when the wakeup signal is detected,
wherein the wakeup signal has a time period covering a time period in the active mode and a time period in the standby mode.
