1. A media device comprising:
one or more processing devices; and
memory communicatively coupled with and readable by the one or more processing devices and having stored therein processor-readable instructions which, when executed by the one or more processing devices, cause the one or more processing devices to perform operations comprising:
discovering a secondary media device via multiple subnets in a local network;
receiving audio/video (A/V) content;
providing the A/V content to a first display; and
operating as a server in the local network, wherein the operating comprises communicatively connecting to the secondary media device and providing the A/V content to the secondary media device;
where one or both of the media device and the secondary media device select a first subnet of the multiple subnets to use based at least in part on a type of content to communicate via the first subnet.
