A method of detecting apolipoprotein E-rich high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (ApoE-rich HDL-C) in a test blood sample isolated from a living body of a patient having nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, said method comprising detecting whether ApoE-rich HDL-C is present at a concentration of 5.5 mg/dL or less in the sample.
