1. A lighting system for illuminating an area comprising:
at least one luminaire disposed in an area, the at least one luminaire comprising:
a housing having a light exit aperture at a distal end,
a first light source configured to emit visible light, and
a second light source configured to emit ultraviolet light,
wherein the second light source is disposed in the housing between the first light source and the light exit aperture and allows at least some of the visible light emitted by the first light source to pass therethrough;
a controller operatively coupled to the second light source of the at least one luminaire; and
at least one sensor operatively coupled to the controller and disposed at least one of on the at least one luminaire or remote from the at least one luminaire.
