1. A system comprising:
at least one processor;
a hardware control device;
at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium; and
program instructions stored on the at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium that are executable by the at least one processor such that the system is configured to:
detect a given proximity between the hardware control device and a given playback device of a media playback system;
based on detecting the given proximity, determine a command to cause the given playback device to begin play-back of media content;
identify a given user associated with the hardware control device;
based at least on a listening history of the given user, identify given media content for playback by the given playback device; and
cause the given playback device to execute the command by playing back the given media content.
