1. A method comprising:
receiving a manifest file, the manifest file comprising streaming specifications for a plurality of available content element representations of portions of a spatial scene, the manifest file identifying, for each respective content element representation, (1) degrees of freedom associated with the respective content element representation from among a plurality of available degrees of freedom, and (2) a bitrate associated with the respective content element representation, the manifest file further identifying initial download data and a size of the initial download data for at least a first content element representation of the plurality of available content element representations;
selecting the first content element representation from the plurality of available content element representations identified in the manifest file based on an estimate of available network bandwidth and the size of the initial download data,
wherein the first content element representation is further associated with a first degrees of freedom and initial download data;
retrieving the initial download data;
retrieving a stream segment of the first content element representation; and
displaying the first content element representation using the initial download data and the stream segment.
