1. A method for detecting a fault in a shunt capacitor bank connected in a power system, the method comprising:
obtaining voltage measurements and current measurements at a terminal of the shunt capacitor bank;
computing an electrical parameter based on the voltage and current measurements, wherein the electrical parameter is an impedance angle or an active power;
calculating a difference between a first and a second value of the electrical parameter for a plurality of phases; and
detecting the fault based on the difference, wherein detecting the fault comprises determining whether a predefined criterion is met, wherein the predefined criterion comprises:
an absolute value of sum of the difference between the first and the second value of the electrical parameter of a first one of the phases and the difference between the first and the second value of the electrical parameter of a second one of the phases is greater than the difference between the first and the second value of the electrical parameter of a third one of the phases; and
the absolute value of difference between the first and the second value of the electrical parameter of the first one of the phases and the absolute value of difference between the first and the second value of the of electrical parameter of the second one of the phases are each greater than a respective threshold value.
