1. A surgical system, the system comprising:
one or more processors and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to:
receive image data representing a surgical environment;
process the image data using a first classification network to generate first classification output data indicating a determined surgical specialty type represented by the image data of the surgical environment, wherein the determined surgical specialty is a class of procedures;
in accordance with the first classification output data indicating the determined surgical specialty type, select a second classification network from a first plurality of classification networks; and
process the image data using the second classification network to generate second classification output data indicating a determined procedure type represented by the image data of the surgical environment, wherein procedure type is of narrower classification than surgical specialty type.
