1. A detergent composition comprising:
from about 1% to about 50% of a sulfated surfactant selected from the group R′—O—(C2H4O)n—SO3M, ROSO3M+, and mixtures thereof, wherein R′ and R are alkyl groups having 14 or more carbons, wherein n is from about 1 to 20, and wherein M is a salt-forming cation;
an organic acid comprising citric acid;
a fluorescent whitening agent; and
from about 0.25% to about 10% of an alkalizing agent;
wherein the composition has a pH of about 2 to about 3 when measured neat;
wherein the composition is substantially free of sulfated surfactant according to R′—O—(C2H4O)n—SO3M and ROSO3M+, wherein R′ and R are alkyl groups having fewer than 14 carbons; and
wherein the composition is substantially free of peroxide bleach.
