17. A method for treating target tissue, comprising:
inserting a distal portion of a clipping device to a target area within a living body, the distal portion including a capsule and first and second clip jaws slidably received within the capsule to be movable between an open configuration, in which distal ends of the first and second clip jaws are separated from one another, and a closed configuration, in which the distal ends of the first and second clip jaws are drawn toward one another, wherein an interior face of a distal portion of each of the first and second clip jaws defines a corresponding clip plane and wherein the first clip jaw includes a first barb extending from the interior face of the distal portion of the first clip jaw toward the second clip jaw in a plane substantially perpendicular to the clip plane of the first clip jaw;
positioning the first and second clip jaws in contact with a target tissue so that the first barb grips a target portion of tissue; and
clipping the target portion of tissue by moving the first and second clip jaws to the closed configuration so that the first barb holds the target portion of tissue in a desired position as the first and second clip jaws are moved to the closed configuration.
