1. A pet bed comprising:
a quilt having a length, a width that is narrower than the length with first and second opposing edge sides of the quilt extending along the length of the quilt, and a plurality of fasteners;
a shell having a length, a width that is narrower than the length of the shell and narrower than the width of the quilt, and a plurality of fasteners along opposing edges along the length of the shell and configured to selectively couple to and disconnect from the plurality of fasteners of the quilt, the shell having upper and lower surfaces connected along the edges thereof at opposing sides of the shell that extend along the length thereof to form an enclosure, the shell having an opening along one of the opposing sides, the shell being configured and arranged with the quilt to:
in a first mode, house the quilt within the enclosure with the shell extending over the quilt and the first edge side of the quilt being anchored along an edge of the one side of the opposing sides of the enclosure and the second edge side of the quilt extending freely into the enclosure via the opening, therein utilizing the quilt as a mattress within the enclosure for a pet lying on the upper surface of the shell; and
in a second mode, anchor the first edge side of the quilt along said edge of the one side of the opposing sides of the enclosure and couple the second edge side of the quilt to an edge of the opposing side of the upper surface of the shell via the respective fasteners of the shell and the quilt to provide an insulated enclosure having an opening at an end of the shell that extends along the width of the shell, between the opposing sides and for accepting a pet, the insulated enclosure having a lower surface defined by the upper surface of the shell and an upper surface defined by the quilt, the quilt being wider and configured to extend away from the upper surface of the shell when coupled thereto, therein providing the insulated enclosure opening to facilitate acceptance of a pet within the insulated enclosure through the end and lying on the upper surface of the shell with the quilt covering and insulating the pet.
