1. A drug delivery device, the drug delivery device comprising:
a case configured to retain a medicament container;
a drive energy member;
a plunger movable from a proximal position into a distal position relative to the case by energy provided by the drive energy member for delivering a medicament from the medicament container;
a collar, the collar being operatively coupled to the plunger, the collar being rotatably disposed in the case; and
a plunger release mechanism arranged to prevent movement of the plunger into the distal position,
wherein the plunger release mechanism comprises the collar, and
wherein, for releasing the plunger for the movement into the distal position, the collar is rotatable relative to the case by a force provided by the drive energy member in a release direction relative to the case, wherein the plunger release mechanism further comprises:
a needle shroud, wherein the needle shroud is movable relative to the case between a first position and a second position, wherein in the first position the needle shroud blocks rotation of the collar in the release direction, and wherein in the second position the collar is rotatable in the release direction to release the plunger for the movement into the distal position of the plunger.
